COURSE INTRODUCTION
KoBoToolbox is a comprehensive suite of tools designed for field data collection in challenging environments. The software is free and open source, enabling data collection through Android-enabled mobile devices and facilitating submission to an online server. This training will equip participants with the skills needed to develop, implement, and manage a mobile data collection platform using KoBoToolbox.
WHO WILL FACILITATE THE TRAINING?
The course facilitator has around 12 consecutive years of Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning experience at different organizations including Save the Children International, World Vision International, Health Poverty Action (formerly known as Health Unlimited), and Caritas Switzerland and Luxemburg among others with his current role being a MEAL Manager. His primary area of focus revolves around the development and implementation of the project Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) systems; taking the lead on the compilation and analysis of program data and learning; designing and conducting research; and setting up and implementing accountability mechanisms. In addition to his hands-on experience in this field, he is the only known well-versed practitioner in Somali-speaking countries who has a Master’s Degree in Monitoring and Evaluation at Mount Kenya University. He also earned his Bachelor’s degree in Statistics and Mathematics with distinction at the University of Hargeisa.

Module 1: Introduction to Mobile Data Collection

- Demystifying question-type styles forming a questionnaire
Module 2: Introduction to Kobo Toolbox and Set up
Understanding the heart of M and E- log frame
- Components of KoboToolbox
- Kobo Form builder
- KoboToolbox server
- KoBoCollect Installation from google play to your device
- Manual installation of KoBoCollect
- KoBoCollect Menus and Settings
- Designing forms online using Formbuilder
- Uploading forms to KoboToolBox Server
- Exercise: Account creation and uploading your server
Module 3: Designing and Creating Form using XLS form
- Introduction to XLSForm
- Components of XLSForm
- Question types
- Form Logic, styling, language
- Form operators and functions
- Constraints, Skips, repeats, appearance, and Required
- Form validation criteria
- Uploading form to KoboToolBox Server
- Exercise: Code questionnaires using XLS forms and upload it
Module 4: Using Kobo Collect for Field Data Collection and Data Management
- Filling forms in KoBoCollect

- Formatting data for further analysis using statistical applications
- Exercise: Collecting digital data from the field and download your data from your server
Module 5: Visualizing Geographic Data
- Exporting GPS Coordinates to Google maps

- Analyze and export data to excel for customized analysis
COURSE APPLICATION PROCESS
In-person Class Fee
- We charge 100 dollars for the physical classes covering (the facilitator fee, course completion certificate training materials-presentations, and rich reading materials with linked videos) to the participants who attend in-class training.
- We have also flexible and self-paced classes for the online trainees with recorded course lectures
Online Class Fee
- For the online trainees, they just need to pay 60 dollars and get a course completion certificate and training materials-presentations and rich reading materials with recorded video lectures in Somalia by our facilitators together with regular mentoring and coaching for a minimum of 30 days including free job application guidance if needed
- The online classes will be open to all interested participants who have internet access in the greater Horn of Africa (Somalia, Somaliland, Kenya, and Ethiopia among other countries).

WHO SHOULD ATTEND THIS COURSE?
This is a general training targeting a variety of program management staff, government officials, middle-level managers, policymakers, and project officers working in different settings. This training also is a great eye-opening opportunity for unemployed and fresh graduates who are willing to advance his/her soft skills so that they can easily settle for decent and deserved jobs.
THE TRAINING DURATION
This is a 5-day-long training with 3 hours of 50% theory and 50% practical sessions for each day. We have also flexible and self-paced classes for the online trainees with recorded course lectures. The course always takes one month.
