WHO WILL FACILITATE THE TRAINING?

The course facilitator has around 12 consecutive years of Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning experience at different organizations including Save the Children International, World Vision International, Health Poverty Action (formerly known as Health Unlimited), and Caritas Switzerland and Luxemburg among others with his current role being a MEAL Manager. His primary area of focus revolves around developing and implementing the project Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) systems; taking the lead on the compilation and analysis of program data and learning; designing and conducting research; and setting up and implementing accountability mechanisms. In addition to his hands-on experience in this field, he is the only known well-versed practitioner in Somali-speaking countries who has a Masterโ€™s Degree in Monitoring and Evaluation at Mount Kenya University. He also earned his Bachelor’s degree in Statistics and Mathematics with distinction at the University of Hargeisa.

DETAILED TRAINING CONTENTS:

Module 1: Data Field Work Management
  • Introduction to sampling methods: simple random, stratified and cluster
  • Introduction to nonprobability sampling methods (quota, purposeful sampling and snowballing sampling)
  • Introduction to cross-sectional sample-based household surveys
  • Questionnaire construction (facts, actions, behavioral and attitude sections)
  •  Data collection fieldwork Management
  • Quality control mechanism put in place during fieldwork
  • Utilization of Mobile data collection platforms (Kobo collect) and ODK in the field.
Module 2: Demystifying SPSS Data Entry and Data Analysis
  • Introduction to SPSS software uses
  • Software installation 
  •  Understanding the basic function of: data view and variable view (variables and records)
  • Create a great data entry template on SPSS with a strong focus on coding and scale of measurement 
  •  Familiarize yourself with data, syntax, and output features
  • Data analysis using SPSS and producing reports
Module 3: SPSS/Stata Data Analysis Using Basic and Advanced Techniques
  • Running Frequency counts
  • Running Descriptive statistics such as mean, percentage, and standard deviations)
  •  Presentation of data with the support of   Graphs, tables, and Charts
  • Split files  and select cases to do   specific  data analysis for sub-groups
  •  Doing inferential statistics using one variable:- sample-t-tests and confidence intervals and two โ€“sample-test- tests, paired-samples-t-tests 
  •  Doing inferential statistics using more than two variables: correlation and regression analysis (simple and multiple)
  • Exercise: SPSS data analysis project
Module 4:ย Excel Data Analysis Using Basic and Advanced Techniques
  • Create excel Data entry with all data validations 
  • Running Descriptive statistics using Pivot tables, filtering methods, and counting if functions
  •  Presentation of data with the support of   Graphs, tables, and Charts
  • Activate Excel application Add-ins to incorporate data analysis tool pack where all inferential functions are stored in the Excel sheet
  •  Doing inferential statistics using one variable:- sample-t-tests and confidence intervals  and two โ€“sample-test- tests, paired-samples-t-tests 
  •  Doing inferential statistics using more than two variables: correlation and regression analysis(simple and multiple)
  • Exercise: Excel data analysis project
Module 5:ย Report Writing skills using analysed data
  • Report writing in the   key achievement reports  
  •  Write up for  study reports such as needs assessment, baseline, and evaluation studies 
  •  Separate data analysis for Qualitative and qualitative but interpreting them together.
  • How to use analyzed data in Monitoring and Evaluation
  • Exercise:Report Writing using FGDs and Survey data
In-person Class Fee
  • We charge 70 dollars for the physical classes covering (the facilitator fee, course completion certificate training materials-presentations, and rich reading materials with linked videos) to the participants who attend in-class training.
  • We also have flexible and self-paced classes for online trainees with recorded course lectures
Online Class Fee
  • For the online trainees, they just need to pay 40 dollars and get a course completion certificate and training materials-presentations and rich reading materials with recorded video lectures in Somalia by our facilitators together with regular mentoring and coaching for a minimum of 30 days including free job application guidance if needed
  • The online classes will be open to all interested participants who have internet access in the greater Horn of Africa (Somalia, Somaliland, Kenya, and Ethiopia among other countries).
